HYT Watches is a brand unique in the world of independent watchmaking. Launched in 2012, HYT caused a stir with its unique meca-fluidic technology, which uses fluid to tell the time. During the midst of the pandemic in 2020, the label announced it was going out of business…but just a few months later, HYT is back with new CEO and creative director Davide Cerrato at the helm. A veteran of the watch industry, Cerrato rose to fame with brands such as Panerai, Tudor or Montblanc. The launch of the first work, Hastroid, was a great opportunity to meet him. In the in-depth video at the top of this article, we talk to Davide Cerrato about the brand’s relaunch and the new HYT Hastroid watch.
Behind HYT is an idea, a vision to show time in an unprecedented and decidedly unnatural way. Created in 2012, instead of traditional hands that revolve around a dial, HYT Watches uses a brand new fluid-based display… yes, indeed, one of the worst enemies of a mechanical watch for telling time. Here, the display relies on an additional module consisting of bellows and capillaries, in which two immiscible fluids flow in a retrograde fashion to indicate the passage of time, with the point where the two fluids meet represents the current time. However, the brand had to confront issues and go out of business for a while before a new CEO and industry veteran could be appointed, our longtime friend Davide Cerrato – often regarded as one of the most creative minds in the business one.
After the launch of the new range of watches HYT Hastroid Green Nebula and Hastroid Green Laser we thought it was time to meet Davide and ask him about HYT, its vision, the future and the watches we can look forward to.
